While Obama's election is heartening at many levels, I predict that the rules of the game in Washington will not substantially change as a result. The Democratic Party is as fully coopted by corporate Amerika as the Republican Party. To me, pulling in the Clintons as allies looks a lot like pulling in corporate bigshots as allies. I suspect this will be the first of a long string of disappointments from Obama. I truly hope I'm wrong.

Beyond that, I agree that Hillary Clinton does not bring substantial diplomatic experience to the table. If she is selected, it will be due to a crass political calculus, not due to implementing a new meritocracy in Washington. If Hil has some merit, it would be as Secretary of HHS.

The only thing I ever learned and still remember from my political science professor back '68 (Hey, it WAS the 60's still, OK?), was about the essential notion of what Rights are. Simply:

The Rights of the minority cannot be taken away by the preference of the majority.

Those who don't have the slightest inkling of this seem to have won, but they only seem to have, IMHO.

I am disappointed to not hear mention in your background material of my strong influence upon the (d?)evolution of your political beliefs. Good to hear that you are alive and well. I am still basking in the afterglow of what (being the long-suffering Cal fan that I am) is the "not yet quite sunken in" knowledge that we actually won this time. The future for all hippiedom indeed looks bright.
